About Cub Scouting

Want to know more about Cub Scouting? This page will provide information that you and your child need to know if you are considering beginning the journey of scouting.

The Purpose of Cub Scouting
Cub Scouting is a family oriented program designed to build character development, spiritual growth, respect, personal achievement, and much more. Along with personal development, Cub Scouting prepares members for the jump to Boy Scouts. Through the Cub Scout program a boy is taught respect for his God, his country, his home, and other people.

What To Expect
Unlike other activities children may be involved with, Scouting is year round allowing development and advancement to be accomplished the child's pace. Cub Scouts are organized in several dens. The first den is the Tiger Cub den which is for boys in the first grade or seven years of age. From the Tiger den, the child advances to Cub Scout dens. Once a child has reached Webelo Scout he will be able to advance to Boy Scouts.

Den meetings are usually held once a week. At the meetings, the child will participate in several activities such as crafts, songs, games, and learning skills. Cub Scouting includes a variety of fun and exciting activities for boys in the first through fifth grades. From time to time the Scouts will be able to participate in camping activities.

Learning From Role Models
Cub Scouting centers on family involvement. Parents are asked to participate in activities with their children. Along with parents, Cub Scouting has another source of role models in the form of Den Chiefs. Den Chiefs are youth members of the Boy Scouts who attend meetings with the Cub Scouts and help in activities and development. Den Chiefs also serve as recruiters for the Boy Scouts. The goal of Den Chiefs is to make the transition into Boy Scouts less stressful by providing a friend in the new environment.
